A Muslim is a person who submits and obeys the will and guidance from the One and Only Almighty Creator, which is Allah. The Guidance is found in two sources: the Word of God named Quran, and collections of sayings & actions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
A Muslim’s Foundation of Faith can be found in Six Pillars of Faith, which are:
1) Belief in Allah
2) Belief in angels
3) Belief in Allah’s revealed scriptures
4) Belief in the Prophets and Messengers of Allah
5) Belief in the Day of Judgment
6) Belief in Al-Qadar (Divine Predestination)
Meanwhile, in a framework of a Muslim’s life, he or she ensures that the Five Pillars of Islam are fulfilled, which consist of testimony of faith (Shahada), prayer, giving Zakat (2.5% obligatory donation), fasting (Sawm) during the month of Ramadan, and the pilgrimage (Hajj) to Makkah once in a lifetime for those who are able.
But when Jesus felt [persistence in] disbelief from them, he said, “Who are my supporters for [the cause of] Allah ?” The disciples said,” We are supporters for Allah . We have believed in Allah and testify that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]. ( Quran 3:52 )
Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allah ]. And he was not of the polytheists. ( Quran 3 :67 )
Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, “What will you worship after me?” They said, “We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac – one God. And we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.” ( Quran 2:133 )
All the prophets and messengers that has been sent by Allah are Muslim.
