Every Muslim must respect and revere Jesus (peace be upon him), and we await his second coming. One can’t be regarded as a Muslim if he doesn’t believe in Jesus as well as all the other prophets sent by God. Muslims consider Jesus as one of God’s greatest messengers to mankind.
Mary, Jesus’ mother is considered the purest woman in all creation and Quran does confirm Jesus’ virgin birth. Quran says:
“Behold! the Angel said, `God has chosen you, and purified you, and chosen you above the women of all nations. O Mary, God gives you glad tidings of a word from Him, whose name shall be the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, honored in this world and the Hereafter, and one that shall speak to the people from his cradle and in maturity, and shall be of the righteous.’ She said: `O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me?’ He said: `Even so; God creates what He wills. When He decrees a thing, He but says to it, “Be!” and it is.”
As one of the great prophets, he is worthy of our respects and honour, but certainly not our worship. Being born from a virgin birth doesn’t mean that he is a begotten son of God or an incarnate of God. He was born miraculously without a father through the same power which had created Adam more miraculously into being.
“Truly, the likeness of Jesus unto God is as the likeness of Adam. He created him of dust, and then said to him, `Be!’ and he was.”
If any Christian argues that Jesus birth without a father is a proof of Jesus’ divinity, then Adam would have more right over this divinity that Jesus since Adam was created without a father and a mother.
Jesus never called himself as God and he never commanded others to worship him. Jesus was sent to the Jews, to confirm and to renew the doctrine of the belief in one God which was brought by earlier prophets.
All messengers of God, including Jesus were equipped with miracles specific to the nation to whom they were sent as a prove to the veracity of their message. As one of the prophet, Jesus too performed miracles by the will and permission of God. Since the Jews were well advanced in the field of medicine, so the miracles which Jesus performed were of this nature, in order to convince the Jews about the truth of God’s message.
“Then will God say: ‘O Jesus the son of Mary! Recount My favor to you and to your mother. Behold! I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit (the angel Gabriel) so that you did speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. Behold! I taught you the Book and Wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel. And behold: you make out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My leave, and you breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by My leave, and you heal those born blind, and the lepers by My leave. And behold! You bring forth the dead by My leave. And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from (violence to you) when you did show them the Clear Signs, and the unbelievers among them said: ‘This is nothing but evident magic.’”
But the Jews rejected him and called him as an impostor. They even tried to kill him but they never succeeded. They didn’t crucify Jesus but God made it appeared to be so. God saved him and raised him unto Heaven.
“…They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but (another) was made to resemble him to them…” (Quran 4:157)
“God lifted him up to His presence. God is Almighty, All-Wise.” (Quran 4:158)
